The reason cats don’t like cat beds is that they lack a sense of security. Pet owners may notice that, rather than sleeping in their beds, cats prefer to curl up in cardboard boxes or tucked away in corners—this is simply their natural instinct to seek safety. The snug confines of a box and the dim, sheltered nooks offer cats a warm, secure feeling, which becomes even more pronounced when they’re in a new environment. Compared to a spacious cat bed, cats tend to favor these small, cozy spots.
When a cat bed carries the cat’s own scent, the cat is much less likely to resist it. Never force your cat to sleep in the bed—cats won’t stay where they don’t feel comfortable—so gradually help them associate it with a place to rest. Once they get used to it, they’ll start seeking out the bed on their own.
