In such cases, stay calm and take your cat to the nearest veterinary clinic. Of course, if you know how to handle common pet injuries, you can provide basic first aid at home.

　　1. Injury with bleeding

　　Falls from height often result in bleeding from the nose and mouth, fractures, altered mental status, and shock. Immediate emergency measures include artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemostasis, immobilization of the fracture site, and transport to a hospital. Deep chest or abdominal injuries may reveal internal organs visible to the naked eye. After disinfecting with hydrogen peroxide, the entire thoracic or abdominal cavity should be wrapped with cloth or bandages.

　　If a cat is bleeding, first pour hydrogen peroxide onto the wound, then press firmly on the injury with a clean gauze pad and apply a simple bandage. If a limb is fractured, the cat will lift the injured leg; first rinse the wound with hydrogen peroxide, then press it with gauze and immobilize the broken limb using a splint.

　　II. Hemostasis

　　Clean the wound with a damp cotton cloth, trim any matted fur, and apply a mild antiseptic. Smearing a bit of petroleum jelly around the wound’s edges can help prevent hair from sticking to it. If the cat is bleeding heavily, soak a gauze pad in cool water, place it over the wound, and apply gentle pressure.

　　If the bleeding does not stop, wrap a bandage around the gauze and place another piece of gauze on top. To be safe, secure the second layer of gauze with an additional bandage. In cases of severe bleeding, seek immediate medical attention.

　　3. Poisoning

　　Poisoning often occurs when a dog flea treatment is mistakenly applied to a cat, leading to immediate symptoms such as fever, drooling, and vomiting, followed by a drop in body temperature. In such cases, the product should be rinsed off the animal’s coat right away, the cat should be wrapped warmly, and it should be taken to the veterinarian along with the flea treatment.

　　It is suspected that the animal ingested human cold medicine, sleeping pills, sedatives, or fever reducers, resulting in poisoning; the medication package was brought to the hospital as well.

　　If a cat eats a mouse that has been poisoned or ingests poison bait, it may experience severe bleeding and must be kept warm and taken to a veterinary hospital immediately. Cockroach-killing pesticides are highly toxic; never spray them near areas where your cat roams, as the cat could quickly become poisoned. If poisoning occurs, wrap the cat securely and take it to the vet, bringing the pesticide with you.

　　When a cat is involved in an accident, the owner must calmly and systematically follow the steps outlined above to ensure the cat’s safety. If first aid cannot be administered, the cat should be taken immediately to the nearest veterinary hospital.
